DRG Consulting Ltd is a full service Tourism Consultancy providing support to tourist businesses of all types. The company is co-owned and run by husband and wife team Dr. David Gibson and Sarah Gibson.
DRG Consulting has access to a global network of professionals. We work in partnership with a range of other consultants and specialists allowing us to assemble teams of experts to provide adaptable, flexible and tailored solutions to clients which best meet their needs and, most importantly, their budgets.
Dr David Gibson
Dr. David Gibson is passionate about Tourism, Attractions and Conservation. He is a multi-disciplined Tourism Professional with twenty-five years of experience gained from working in the tourism sector in the UK and Europe. Having spent well over half of his career as a Curator of Exhibits, David has operated at a very senior level within the Zoo and Aquarium sector for the majority of his career and has a diverse range of both operational and strategic skills that can be applied to any tourism related project.
With extensive experience in projects of all sizes, David is able to add value to projects ranging from conceptualisation, planning and design through to construction, operation, evaluation and review.
During this career David has worked at many of the leading aquariums in the UK, including the hugely successful Millennium funded project, The Deep, Hull as well as Deep Sea World, Scotland and The Blue Planet, Cheshire. He also spent a period of time as Executive Director at Fota Wildlife Park, Ireland. Most recently David spent almost six years as Managing Director for the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth, UK.
With these major achievements, plus numerous exhibition design and build projects, Dr Gibson is a highly accomplished and skilled Curator. He also has extensive experience of operational management including Retail, Catering, Facilities Management, Education, Research and Conservation and Marketing as well as Strategic Planning and Implementation.
Dynamic and innovative, in addition to his paid roles, Dr. Gibson has held a large number of voluntary and Non-Executive roles in the Zoo and Aquarium and in the 3rd sectors.
These have involved roles for the European Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s (EAZA), the British and Irish Association for Zoos and Aquarium’s (BIAZA) and the IUCN’s Shark Specialist Group (SSG). Dr Gibson also chairs a small Conservation charity, The Seahorse Trust.
Sarah Gibson is a Project Manager with well-developed skills in Marketing, Tourism and the Visitor Economy, Commercial development and Public Relations. Passionate about architecture, Conservation, environment, Heritage, tourism and wildlife, Sarah has worked in each of the Public, Private and Third sectors, in commercial environments, educational establishments, local authorities, charities and not for profit organisations, with employees, contractors and volunteers.
Within her current role as Chief Executive of the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Business Improvement District, Sarah’s responsibility includes managing Plymouth’s heritage quarter with its one-thousand-year maritime heritage. As a Place Manager, Sarah is a champion for conservation of the environment and preservation of heritage within the Waterfront. The entire heritage area has numerous Conservation and Preservation merits, including Conservation Area Status, English Heritage Listed Status, Historic England Orders, European Marine Site Status, three Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and County Wildlife Site Status. Sarah also manages the largest concentration of cobbled streets in the UK, oversees maintenance of more than three hundred English Heritage Listed structures and supports preservation of the largest collection of Grade I Royal Naval Victualling Buildings in Europe.
Sarah has created programmes and driven feasibility studies, strategic masterplans, operational budgeting, signage and interpretation as well as infrastructure investments.
In their spare time David and Sarah enjoy restoring their smallholding in Devon, UK, where they live with their dogs Molly and Freddie, cat Bertie and a growing number of other animals!
